Positive Turn in Japanese Debt
Japan's national debt rose 5.9% year over year in the first quarter of 2006, compared with a 11.2% advance the year before. Nevertheless, Japan has made relatively little progress in reducing the amount of debt outstanding, and concern remains that high levels of government borrowing infringe on the financial health of Japanese companies.
